After a 6 year absence the Festival of Friends is coming back home to Gage Park!
The annual outdoor festival was forced to move to the Ancaster Fairgrounds in 2011 for a myriad of reasons. With the fairgrounds being located further away from Hamilton’s downtown core, it made it difficult for festivalgoers to attend - particularly those with mobility issues (whether disability or lack of transportation).
Over the course of the last few months solutions to many of the concerns that necessitated the exit have been negotiated and the 2017 Festival of Friends will once again be held in Gage Park. This is a much anticipated homecoming that will re-energize not only the festival but the downtown core as well. The festival coming back to its roots is truly worth celebrating this summer.
The Festival of Friends is a free, outdoor music, art, and crafts festival that has been a landmark event in Hamilton since 1976. It is a celebration of cultural life and the Canadian mosaic, supporting and showcasing artists and cultural groups. It is an integral part of the Hamilton community that creates a vehicle for tourism and education; as well as providing an environment for family enjoyment.
The 2017 Festival of Friends will be held August 11-13th. It is an event that we attend with our own families’ year over year and we couldn’t be happier to see it come home to beautiful Gage Park.
